Has anyone replaced/renewed a C40 dynamo's field terminal assembly?
It's broken off on my dynamo. Replacements are available. Fortunately I had a spare dynamo which has been fitted. The field coil wires are crimped on and it's all riveted to the casing!

Used a n.o.s. Lucas terminal kit. The hardest part was de-soldering the field coil wire from the broken spade terminal! They must have used some serious solder in Birmingham.

To answer your question, Mervyn, I have not had a problem with the F terminal, but I did have a D terminal that came loose, with only intermittent electrical contact and thus erratic charging. I fixed it by liberal use of an epoxy glue!

It was self inflicted and, as described in my original post, had broken off at the change in width. Or, I broke it off trying to remove the field connection.

Re: Dynamo field terminal.
I was very close to embarassing myself by asking about the output voltage when bench testing. It would only achieve around 13v. Jumper between F and D, voltmeter between D or F and body. Flashed +ve earth.
Used a cordless drill to spin it. That was my error, it wasn't spinning fast enough!
Mains drill 16,17,18 volts achieved. Care taken to stay below 20v.
