Body numbers
Can anyone help with this body number, I am ok with the chassis number the number on the removable plate matches the number stamped on the bulkhead adjacent to the throttle cable grommet, but I can't seem to find what these numbers mean

The body number is listed on my Heritage Certificate as a 5 digit number. On the plate in my car that number is preceded by T (for tourer). Your plate seems to be rather more complicated than mine. I just have Zxxxxx (Z followed by 5 numbers) a big gap and then Txxxxx (T followed by 5 numbers)

My car isa 1953 tourer I think numbers had changed a bit by 1969

Probably but they have kept the Z followed by numbers and T followed by numbers. What does your Heritage Certificate say?
Your body number is T33173 according to the plate. As long as it matches the Heritage Certificate there's no problem.
Basically your plate is the same as mine but there is another plate on your car to the right that my car does not have.

I do not have any certificate I was hoping just to confirm that the body type is correct for the chassis number plate

The body number should match the Nuffield plate located at the front floor area of the engine bay, right hand side as you stand in front facing the car. Some owners have reported on here that the numbers don't match exactly but are close. I don't know why that is.

I do not have that floor plate as it has been replaced sometime in the past

The NMP plates were just spot welded on and tended to trap dirt and rot or, if the tie plate/chassis leg rotted away and was replaced, the NMP plate was never replaced. On early sidevalve cars, this plate was on the crossmember above the gearbox bell housing.
The NMP plate numbers should be the same as those on the long thin plate screwed to the bulkhead.

Thanks, it was an 803cc ohv car, that I do know, I did search but could not find a way to decipher the body number plate like the vin number, hence why I asked

regPOMM did a lot of research on these numbers. The plates were attached at Nuffield Metal Works. Z13824 identifies the body style and a vintage. The list he gave me doesn't define what body style but it is 53 to 54 vintage. The number to the right is more or less a serial number for the body.

The BMT tag indicates a Tourer / Convertible . They were on some cars, up to and including Series III. BMT indicates 4 door and I have one on my Series III 1957 4 door. What the purpose of this tag was originally, is a bit of a mystery as the T / H designation is already on the right hand side of the body tag. If BSAA10Richard wants a replacement NMP plate I still have some of the last pressing. Please PM me if interested.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
