1098 filter

Post by BSAA10Richard »

I have sourced a complete air filter unit for my 948 with HS2 carb, I believe it to be a 1098 typr, my question is which way does the inlet pipe point, the logical way is for it to be towards the rear of the car very close to the exhaust manifold, is this correct for mainly summer driving, it just does not look correct the othe way, also I have a pipe from the rocker box to the air filter which would have to be different lengths if I move it

The inlet pipe can be moved to have a Summer and a Winter position. The Winter position has the air inlet near the manifold and pointing backwards. The Summer position has the inlet pipe facing away from the exhaust manifold. Be careful with the Summer position as it is possible to have the carburettor jet foul when the choke is fully out. Make sure you have the correct rubber gasket between carb and air filter.

Picture shows Summer position of air filter in my car. The inlet pipe is well away from the hot manifold. If I try to angle the pipe any further forwards then the carb jet is fouled when the choke is fully out. My car does not use the earlier breather pipe from rocker cover.

Thanks, that also looks very close to the exhaust manifold, so I don't think it will make any difference so I will leave it as is, then the breather pipe will be better placed

I've the 1098 Filter Housing.
I don't have all the PCV stuff that Stephen's image shows.
I simply have it pointing at the Rocker Cover for summer and down at the manifold for winter.
A simple rotation of 30 degrees or so, easily done after just loosening the thumbnut.
This being Summer....(an old photo from when I brought him).
