Well, each to their own, Phil, but I think it looks ugly....

Thank you all for your help so far. I've created a rebuild thread further down and would really appreciate the moral support which all you lovely people seem to give. :D

The steering wheel looks similar to that fitted to the Austin 1300GT.

Link to a period correct steering wheel for you, should you wish to refit one:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=htt ... AdAAAAABAE
It also gets you onto the 'Minorparts of Oxford' site, a supplier that I quite rate, not too expensive and they can usually source what you want.
Of course it always pays to shop around, I buy wherever I find the best deal.
Below is a link to the type of centre you would have had in your car, I believe the horn push would be on a side stalk in 1957:

https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead ... ECc&adurl=
With the centre you may be able to get one cheaper than this, so I include this just so you can see what you are looking for, if you wish to reinstate it as it was.
Best wishes,
Mike.
1954 Series 2: 4 door: "Sally" -- Back on the ground with (slave) wheels, now being sprayed by me, slowly......
1970 Triumph Herald 1200: "Hetty" -- Driven back from Llangollen in Wales (twice.....)
1952 Morris Minor MM highlight with sidevalve engine still fitted, wants work, so joins the queue for now......
