Seat base webbing

Post by michael4 »

The webbing on our front seats is getting quite slack making the sitting position rather odd, to put it mildly.

The seat backs seem OK or if they have gone slack it is less noticeable.

For a quick fix I have wedged some strips of carpet between webbing and seat cushioning. The result is excellent but I doubt it will last long.

The webbing straps look like the replacements commonly available and none too old. Seems that they do not last that long.

When I get round to doing the job properly should I use one of those rubber diaphragm things or should I stick with webbing?

What lasts longest?

I replaced my seat straps with new webbing many years age. They eventually went like the old ones so this time I have used the rubber diaphragm type. It has only been a year or two, but every thing is holding up well.

We did well with mine, they were done in probably around 2004 and are only now at the point of needing replaced, though several of the base straps were still in good enough condition to work as back straps.

Thanks, looks like I will be using the diaphragm solution though it would help if I could spell the darn thing without resorting to the spelling checker.

I assume the existing holes in the frame are in the wrong place and I will need to drill new?

When I did mine I found that I could use some of the original holes but had to drill a few new ones
Easy enough. A big improvement using a new foam base as well. I did the backrest too and had a properly comfortable seat again as a result. The difference was amazing :D .

Is there a diaphragm that fits the seat back or did you use webbing?

I used webbing for the back. I'm not aware of any alternative available commercially and the webbing has been fine - although ridiculously expensive now :o

Yes I've seen the price of webbing, I'll research alternatives before buying anything!
