Socket set
I’m looking to replace my socket set it’s old and tatty can anyone recommend any particular make to go for that will include everything I need to carry out maintenance on my Moggy
Re: Socket set
Probably the best is Stahlwille, a German company. Britool is another, however i bought a comprehensive set from Halfords and pleased with it. I just got fed up with a load of spanners from everywhere over the years, still keep them though !

Re: Socket set
You will need Whitworth sockets for use on the Minor. Modern sets these days tend to be Metric and A/F.
I have a full set of Britool sockets and attachments/ratchets etc which has been added to over the years and I would highly recommend them.
This is the type of Britool socket set I have which has the additional items like stud remover and in line ratchet.

The old Britool sets in my opinion are the better bet and there are several full sets on 'e' bay but not cheap. You gets what you pays for.
Bedford, Elora and Gordon are also good makes.
'e' bay is a good source of good quality socket sets or even individual sockets.
Here is a nice Elora 1/2" drive socket set with some replacement parts but overall looks to be good.

Whilst I have 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" drive sockets I tend to use the 3/8" drive set which I purchased some years back and is of heavy enough duty for tasks being carried out on a Minor.

Re: Socket set
As Phill says, the old Britool sets are excellent but they are too expensive for me.
Another suggestion is to buy a good quality AF/Metric socket set and add to it by buying a set of Whitworth sockets on a rail. BA sockets are also useful for certain jobs on a minor.
As you go along you will find there are sockets/box spanners that you need to buy individually e.g for the steering wheel nut.
When you need to hold a bolt head whilst undoing a nut you need the corresponding spanner as well as the socket.
Do try not to use adjustable spanners. They just make a mess of the fixings and are only for emergencies in my opinion!

King Dick have a good reputation but might be a bit pricey. I've still got the Halfords set I bought 30-something years ago and it'll probably outlast me.

Re: Socket set
Back in the 1980's I bought a YAMOTO socket set (Cromwell tools sell them) and it's still going strong! The only problem I've had is the rubber handles have eventually loosened so I've had to glue them back on. The case was damaged (broken latch) when my son drove over it about ten years ago, but I got a brand new case from Cromwell! My 1/2" drive set has metric, A/F and Whitworth sockets and I also have a 3/8" drive set of the same make. Also have several other socket sets and lots of spanners, but the Yamato ones have really proved their worth. They're surprisingly good value for money too!
This is my big set: https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/hand-to ... HFEALw_wcB
The case layout is different nowadays to my old set but it has a good selection of sizes!

Re: Socket set
Your local recycle centre is a great source for whitworth sockets and spanner at cheap prices, as lots thrown away by modern vehicle owners.

Re: Socket set
Back in the 1980's my mum bought me a set of METRINCH sockets. They are a special shape and can be used on metric and imperial including Whitworth sizes. The box liner has worn out but the sockets are a good as new.

Re: Socket set
I bought an old Britool set off Ebay for £40 a couple of years ago. They may be dirty but will clean up and are just what you need. Any missing sizes can be picked up for a few £. Just seen this one which looks promising: https://shorturl.at/AaNzA
