Rubber Sump Gasket?

Post by silloyd »

Hi, has anyone tried this (main gasket is rubber whilst end seals are cork):

If so, is it any better than a standard gasket?

Any problems regarding the 'A' Series sump gaskets is invariably related to the cork packing which in many cases is not installed as per the workshop manual. The failure to follow the workshop manual instructions can result in the packings leaking oil.
I note that the packings in the kit (link above) are cork.
The cork packing should be slightly longer than the groove it fits into (see workshop manual for details) and trimmed to suit.
Whilst I have not tried the rubber gaskets fitted between the sump top face and the block bottom face I see no advantage in fitting the rubber gaskets over the normal paper gasket which I have used for many 'A' Series in line rebuilds.
A well greased paper sump gasket will do its job without complaint or problem.

Thanks for the prompt reply philthehill! I'll stick with standard then.
