Re: Cylinder Heads for sale
Interestingly the 12G295 head pictured above does not appear to have the temp gauge take off just below the thermostat.

I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with those collets on the 12G295 head. That is how they are.

Re: Cylinder Heads for sale
If you look at the 940 head on the plug side and just below the thermostat there is a boss with hole for the temp gauge take off.
All of the 12G295 head I have seen and handled over the years have had the boss with hole to accommodate the temp gauge take off.
BMC had all sorts of head designs over the years and the 12G295 head you have for sale may be a very early head.
If I find any more information I will post on here.
Phil

These E-bay 12G295 heads don't appear to have the temp sensor mounting, either:

Re: Cylinder Heads for sale
But this one does:-
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176538818797 ... R_DBlPCzZA
I would suggest that item No: 125882944282 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125882944282 ... R7DNtPCzZA has a temp take off facility. Whilst you cannot see the plug face if the photo is blown up you can see where the hole where the temp transmitter intrudes into the chamber below the thermostat.
The head item No: 303945677407 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303945677407 ... i4fCzZAhas the plug face in part shadow so cannot give a clear opinion as to whether the head has a temp take off facility or not.

Re: Cylinder Heads for sale
Indeed. What is amazing is how many of the A-series heads in various guises are still in existence!
I discovered this site, which probably tells you more or less everything you need to know about them:
https://minispares.com/article/Technica ... -head-2022
Interestingly, since this cropped up this week, is that rivets were apparently used in the A+ heads, near the thermostat housing.

Re: Cylinder Heads for sale
Thank you for the link. Very interesting.
I suppose that using a rivet to blank the oil gallery was cheaper and quicker than using a brass plug.

No problem, Yes, I guess some bean/rivet counter at BL/Austin Rover at the time decreed that 'downgrade'...
