steering rack

hi all
is there a 'right way'/ easy way ' to remove the steering rack ?
i was wondering if it can be removed without taking off the track rod ends

I would have thought the easy way to remove the rack is to remove the track rod ends from their tapers.

I suppose you could slacken the lock nuts and wind the steering arms of the rack out of the track rod ends, but you are more likely to lose the tracking setting when you re-fit the rack.
