Belgom Alu solvent?

Post by Sleeper »

Dear All
Just about to polish some aluminium, found the Belgom Alu at the back of the shelf , on opening looks like it's thickened up a somewhat ....does anyone know what the solvent is to " water it down " a little ?

Many Thanks
John ;-)

White spirit? What do you mean by “looks like” and “somewhat”? Maybe it’s not needing ‘thinning’.

" looks like " , with my eyes, it doesn't seem to have the same viscosity.

" somewhat" to a moderate extent.

" thinning" to make less dense.

All freely available in the Oxford English Dictionary...

Joghn,

I know what they all mean. All very subjective (that will no doubt be available, for you, in the OED).

So maybe, perhaps, just use it as it is. I do know that the polish contains wax. I also know what types of solvent are good for dissolving waxes.

Seems to have a lot of Hydrocarbons and other nasty stuff in it. :o
You can download the Safety Data Sheet from here and take a look, but I don't think the solvents are as simple as White Spirit...

Reading that safety data sheet no wonder the product is no longer being manufactured.

I’d be inclined to give paraffin a go.

Many thanks all , ended up cutting open the container and decanting it into a container with a wider top ( allowing me to spatula the stuff out ), and added some soft white paraffin aqueous cream.

Thank tou

John ;-)
