Oil use
I have a 950 Saloon in good condition that I use almost every day. However, on a recent long trip I noticed that it used far more oil when fast cruising (ie 50 mph) than slow journeys (<40 mph). Anybody know why?

Re: Oil use
Haha. I love the idea that 50mph is "fast cruising"
I'd call that "getting in the way of the traffic". I think that fast cruising is faster than 65 mph in mine
A engine working harder will use a bit more oil. The oil gets hotter and thinner for a start. What do you mean by a lot of oil? The last time we took our Minor abroad, we covered about 1400 miles in a week and used just over a pint of oil which I thought was exceptionally good but I have had other Minors which used a pint every 150 - 200 miles. I have never worried TOO much about oil consumption unless I've also had a lot of unpleasant blue smoke. I think oil consumption varied quite a bit from car to car even when they quite new.

Re: Oil use
Crankcase pressure - losing oil through the scroll crank seal? Check for oil from the weep hole in the bell housing.
You don’t actually provide any comparison consumption figures - that might help.

About 150 miles / pint at more than 50 mph, about 500 miles/pint at 40 mpholiver90owner wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 3:32 pm Crankcase pressure - losing oil through the scroll crank seal? Check for oil from the weep hole in the bell housing.
