Original seat belts

Hi .
Newbie post but I can’t find a thread so I’m asking.
I have a fairly original 63 saloon with the Kangol seatbelts fitted. They are very stiff and I can’t figure out how they should work. Can anyone advise please?

Kangol made a few different styles of belts,

A couple of regular style clip in and the kangol magnetic, I take it you have regular style buckles,

I've seen belt buckles that are full of fluff, dog fur, dirt etc. so sometimes they need a good blow out with an airline and then a small amount of something like wd40 applied

Don't however spray anything into the buckle until you know it's totally clean or you will make it worse.

Do take care however as belts are a safety feature they need to work every time without fail.

I have Kangol Magnet static seat belts in one of my cars. I find them very easy to wear and adjust. They are a nice simple lightweight belt which were a BMC option.
What exactly do you have a problem with?

Finally figured out why I was having trouble. They are seized up and upon closer inspection the stitching crumbled away. I’ve changed them for a colour co-ordinated new set. Thanks for the help.

Don't chuck the old ones away. There is a market for them as owners get them reconditioned and re-fitted to cars now

Apologies for hijacking this thread but I would like to invite the OP to check out either the Dual Personality F/book page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/dualper ... risminors/) or the website (https://www.dualpersonalitymorrisminors.co.uk/) as I'm pretty certain you have a so-called Dual Personality Moggy. As joint registrar of the DP register, I'm trying to get as many surviving vehicles onto the register.

For anyone else who may not know, DP vehicles are basically those BUILT (not just registered) between Sept '62 and October '64. Please look at the above sites or you can PM me if you want any more info and/or to get your vehicle logged on this exclusive register. Well, it can't be that exclusive I suppose, as I'm on it.

Meanwhile, back on the topic of static seatbelts. I have them fitted in my saloon and I too find them comfortable and easy to put on. I do, however, have 2 settings:- A summer setting i.e when wearing light clothing and a winter setting - when the belt is let out somewhat to accommodate thicker, warmer cold season attire! Given the weather we've had thus far this year, I don't think I've needed the summer setting yet......might just be me putting on a bit of weight though!!
