Hi all,
Just for information I found a good match for the yellow paint needed for the fan blade, pulley and reinforcer plate.
It is Rover Inca Yellow from Halfords, identical to an AA badge.
Avoid their own Machine Yellow, it is far too light in colour and runs all over the place no matter how lightly you go with it.
Thank you, I am going to do mine when I have the replacement engine ready. The earlier red is not a problem but I had been wondering about a suitable yellow.
You made a net job of spraying that fan , well done.
Glad I'm not the only one who has an odd sleepless night ( 3.18 a.m post ) or are you a night worker ?

Hi,
As has been said above, you've made a nice job of that.
I'm left wondering though why anyone in their right mind would have painted a metal fan blade black in the first place??
Is it so you don't see it, as it slices through your fingers??
Best wishes,
Mike.

Thanks Bob,
I'm on night shifts this week on the railway so have time to browse the forum.
I see my description " net job" in my previous post , should have read " nice job ". Apologies.
Thanks for helping to keep the Country's transport rolling.

That is indeed good. I wonder when the colour was changed from red to yellow. From my limited research it seems to have been when the 1000 was introduced, or not long afterwards. Yellow must have been quite an innovation for safety at the time.
It seems there are quite a few railway employees on the forum, I myself am in the S&T.
Having made a daft comment on this thread some time ago I now find myself painting a fan blade, strengthening plate and pulley. I tried Inca Yellow as suggested but I don't think it is a good match. It seems too pale and cold to me and not enough red in it as compared to the old fan (I have 3 old fans to compare it to). Of course paint ages and the colour shifts so what the original actually looked like is hard to say. I may try the Signal Yellow ral 1003 mentioned here. I found I should have used a white primer. I used grey and the yellow paint does not cover that well.
Now I am thinking about yellow I am seeing yellow everywhere. The yellow road markings look a good match actually. I wonder whether that is "Highway Yellow"?
