Its usually on the top of the casing but you may just be able to read from under the car using a mirror and torch. :D :-?

Could someone please highlight the exact position of the gearbox serial number.
I hope to read it without removing the floor panel. I do have an enderscope and was hoping to look via the oil fill plug access in the floor.

It is usually adjacent to the top rib of the gearbox casing.
I doubt that you will be able to see the gearbox number even using an enderscope through the oil filler hole.

Thanks Phill, don't think I want to go through removing the floor just toconfirm a serial number.

AKD3541, the Mechanical Service Parts List, has the illustrations and captions incorrectly applied :D , but ......

Same detail as Taupe has already provided, although I have no idea why his illustration is a separate download. :-?

Thanks I have seen that illustration but it looks like the older smooth case, as mine is a ribbed case I was just trying to confirm it's position and possibility of reading without removing the floor.

I know what you mean, but I'd like to think that the number was in the same place, since the information is provided for Dealer/Garage staff in the AKD3541.
