MOT certificate V5C VIN Discrepancy DVLA Letter

Post by svenedin »

I have just had a letter from the DVLA informing me that the "VIN" as recorded at my car's recent MOT does not match the VIN on my V5C.

Looking into this, the car number is different on the car, the historic vehicle certificate, the V5C and the MOT certificate! All of the confusion is whether or not the "D" in the car number and the final "M" is included or not.

The plate on the car says, M/AT5 D 1248879 M

The MOT Certificate says MAT5D1248879

The V5C says MAT512448879M

and finally the Heritage Certificate says M-AT5/1248879-M (this agrees with the V5C except in the format)

I also noticed that there is an incorrect letter in the engine number on the V5C as well!

I have replied to the DVLA and hopefully this will be sorted out. Has anyone else had trouble like this?

Yes. I have. The DVLA in my case made a complete hash of it which has never been resolved....I gave up in the end as they simply couldn't see the perfectly logical reasons behind the "discrepancies" which had been cause by themselves in the first place :-?

Cowley = "M/AT5 124xxxx M"

Abingdon builds = MAW5/

Only "-" stamped used on 1970 + LCVs to about 6/70 on Hm.Mkt. when it was chassis plate colour...Zzzzzz
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
