Breather

Post by philthehill »

I have been asked about new breather canisters for a Minor engine. I am not aware that they are available any more other than S/H units.
An alternative is to fit a classic Mini clutch housing breather to the Minor mechanical fuel pump aperture.
This is the breather canister:-

This is the canister fitted to the mechanical fuel pump aperture with an adapter plate between block and canister.

The canister is angled to miss the LCB exhaust manifold but the angle of the canister can be determined by trial fitment of the canister against the block aperture.
The canister can be either connected to the PCV valve or carb body.
The canister must be at a angle so as to allow the oil separated by the mesh inside the canister to drain back into the sump.
You could fit the breather canister/timing chain cover from a 1275cc Midget/Sprite but only S/H units are available as far as I know.

A useful note, thanks Phil. Novices should be aware that not all blocks had the aperture for a mechanical fuel pump, it depends upon the history of your engine. This modification cannot be used without the aperture.
