Re: Wildlife
I don't think they were too upset by me calling them seagulls, the "Toasties" and "Muffins" didn't last long, one DID leave a note upon flying off....it read "thanks for the food, however, we would like to be referred to as gulls"Classiccars wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:19 pm No such thing as a seagull just gulls o am advised. And leaving food well someone or something has to eat it or it probably would end up.in land fill knowing a lot of companies
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Wildlife
Next time he comes for food, give him a note saying — “What are you doing near the sea- gull ?

Re: Wildlife
Good topic, can’t stress the importance of access to fresh clean water enough, the birds like to drink and bathe during the day and hedgehogs drink it at night, which sadly get killed by unobservant and uncaring drivers. Important time of year for them all rearing young. Same with insects.

I won’t win any awards for picture quality here, taken through kitchen window but I had to be quick !

Re: Wildlife
Yep, we have a young 'un regular visitor, though sneaking out to leave food for it without the missus catching me is a pain....."encouraging vermin, next thing we'll be overun with them".....

Re: Wildlife
The other day I saw some ‘vermin’ disposing of a half eaten burger some retard had thrown on the pavement. A refuse collection service, at no expense to the tax payer ! What would we do without them ?

Re: Wildlife
We have a strange attitude to wildlife in the UK in that we tolerate alien invasive species, even though they sometimes create terrible problems for indigenous species.....
The UK has gone soft.

Re: Wildlife
We live in suburban chelmsford but have a wealth of wildlife, loads of goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinch, blackbirds, robins, sparrows blue oops I typed a naughty word and great oops I typed a naughty word, we also have the occasional wren, jay and sparrow hawk, we also have the odd hedgehogs and loads of grey sqirells, it's taken several years of feeding them to build them up though and having water out is essential. Mind you they have mostly dissapeared over the last couple of weeks, happens every year around this time think they may be moulting.
Biggest issue particularly with blackbird nests is cats, if you have one of these monsters keep it locked up at night and fit a bell.

Re: Wildlife
Totally agree with feeding the wildlife we put food out every morning for the birds as well as a pouch of cat food for Hoppy the seagul who comes in every morning.we did have a rat in the garden but one of the foxes that comes in the evening for his supper dealt with ratty as a starter, we now have a family of badgers who come in for supper and who kindly leave the veg patch alone.
All in all wonderful seeing them out there

Re: Wildlife
We are fortunate to have a happy understanding between the badgers and foxes in the garden who will share their supper ( it does end in tears some times) though with the badger cubs running around now the foxes are keeping their distance.
