Electronic fuel pump
has anyone had trouble with a modern electronic fuel pumps? mines been rather troublesome its ok for about 10 miles but after that it just cant keep up fuel flow needed
Re: Electronic fuel pump
Yes - good number of reports of problems. Send it back for a refund and get a points SU pump. It will be good for ~ 40 years. Probably long enough for you ??

Re: Electronic fuel pump
I returned an SU unit as recently as a fortnight ago with the same symptoms.dpearson wrote:has anyone had trouble with a modern electronic fuel pumps? mines been rather troublesome its ok for about 10 miles but after that it just cant keep up fuel flow needed
I am still awaiting a replacement but was loaned a spare old unit by Tom Roy where I purchased it.
There is an issue with the new units

Re: Electronic fuel pump
If it was faulty - the supplier should have either given you a refund, or a replacement right away. You should not have to 'wait' - the responsibility lies with the retailer.

Ahh but the comforting click click tells you it's working - and just how much fuel it is using.......

Roy,
You can still hear it -it's just a lot quieter and less annoying.

I missed this reply BMC, Tom Roy did offer to credit me straight away.bmcecosse wrote:If it was faulty - the supplier should have either given you a refund, or a replacement right away. You should not have to 'wait' - the responsibility lies with the retailer.
However I asked them simply to supply me with a new one when S.U. get their act together and solve said, I was told just yesterday they are developing some new tooling to fix the problem.
Hopefully it wont be too long, but in the meantime Chris at Tom Roy loaned me an old unit as a spare in the boot of the car.

Re: Electronic fuel pump
I hate this electronic fuel pump.
It keeps cutting out every time i try to go over 45 mph.
Can i just buy the points and make them fit on the crappy electronic one?
Anyone got a diagram of how it goes together?
Seems a waste to buy a whole new points type pump when the electronic one I've got looks new.
It was fitted when bought it or I'd throw it back to the supplier for a refund.
Why do people hate points so much?
They are easy to maintain.

Re: Electronic fuel pump
It might look new but that doesn’t help if it’s not working properly. I’m in favour of the original pump set up. I wouldn’t have thought you could fit points to the electric pump. Someone will know for sure. Not everyone dislikes points but others like to update with different gadgets, sometimes to the extent that a modern car would be a better option!!
Re: Electronic fuel pump
Look up Burlen Fuel , lots of help on their technical pages for SU pumps and they sell all the spares you would need if you discover something is suspect.I've put a link to the " disassembly " page.Fire us some questions if you are still unclear on anything.Take your time , don't go at it like a

Do you mean the pump actually stops if you exceed 45mph?

Re: Electronic fuel pump
Ours has got what looks like a Huco pump, it was on the car when we bought it 9 years ago and still works well.
