Customs and Excise Minor saloons

Post by Spikesdriver »

I wonder if any of the four-door Minor saloons used by Customs and Excise at Gatwick Airport survive?
Here are BML245H and what I think is BML243H.
They had a roof flashing light and must have had a radio setup too.
Cheers, Tom.

Given the lack of obvious antenna on the cars, it's unlikely they had radios.
A great many vehicles, even now, are allowed Airside so long as fitted with a beacon and are restricted to the marked roadway areas only of the Pans (the hardstandings). The drivers do of course have to be authorised to drive Airside, having read all the rules and very probably do a test to obtain their permit.
Only vehicles that may require access to the greater airfield, such as Air Traffic, Bird Control, Security/Police, Fuel Bowsers would need radio.
