Apparently that is so. It wouldn’t have endeared the cars to owners in countries with LHD. Doubtless one of the reasons why Minor sales were poor in such markets. Don’t worry about the lock failing though, they are extremely reliable.
Thanks. It appears that Morris did the absolute minimum necessary to convert the cars to LHD; e.g. the bonnet release is on the right (British people constantly complain about cars with the bonnet release on the left...), and the hilarious extension rod on the accelerator pedal that operates the accelerator cable in the right-hand footwell. My car has the early dash, and the panels for that had to be made in reverse for LHD, but they soon put a stop to that

As the locks wear they allow more key shapes and sizes to work so your original will always work - as will a screwdriver probably.
Was going to fit lockable on both sides of my '58 four door,to go with the central locking , had the locks apart and made a right to a left but ended up not fitting it.
Will try to dig out the photos later.
Some years ago I purchased a good 4 door handle and lock to fit to the passenger door but then couldn't be bothered to fit it. I sold it to Jeff-d on this forum in the end.
