Morris 1500 - Interchangable parts?

Post by Shawn »

G'day all,

My Dad has just acquired a very rusty Morris 1500 as a parts donor for his Landcrabs. I'm yet to see the car, but I'm told it's an overhead cam engine with manual gearbox.

Does anybody know if anything much off it will fit a Mog? Particularly interested in the steering wheel, indicator switch assembly (self cancelling?) and carb and manifold.

I fear it may be BMC Australia's attempt at modernising the 1100, so it mightn't be well known in the UK/Europe.

It's a good six-hour drive (return) from my home to his property, so before I set out with tool box in boot I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you got any pics of it? It sounds like an Oz only model, but it might be a Morris Major. There again, that would predate the Landcrab by a while, so I doubt your Dad would've bought it for that...

Hello Shawn,
I seem to have some vague recollection of a Morris Marina or possibly an Ital that had an OHC engine, if so it's a possible, given sufficient facilities and skills. There again, I may be confusing it with an early Maestro or similar.

The 1500 and 1.5s were developed around the same time as the Morris Major, I believe. If anyone has Skiletter's book, I'm certain it's explained in there. Might not be relevant, but it's certainly a little interesting.

G'day again,

Just FYI (if anyone's interested!)

Had a look at a few pics of the car in question. It is a 'E' series 1500 OHC east-west engine (Austin Maxi). Body is basically a BMC 1100. There appears to be very little in the way of useful parts for the Mog enthusiast. The pics on this website match it:

Interestingly (and uselessly) , it's a five speed model.

Cheers,
