Clutch linkage
Hello all. I have a 1968 4 door saloon and need some advice on clutch linkage. Firstly when I press the clutch I hear a twang like a spring retracting. On checking I could see the rubber housing at the end of the adjusting rod needs replacing. Also I noticed the adjustment rod is in fact two rods wielded together? Is this a common thing? My question is how do I replace the rubber housing and also should I replace the linkage while at it. I’m a new Morris owner have minimal mechanical experience but am eager to do as much as I can myself. Images attached explain better.

Re: Clutch linkage
Welcome to the world of Morris Minors.
A photo or photos of your linkage would be appreciated especially regarding the two welded rods.

Re: Clutch linkage
Thank you for the pictures.
The release rod should be a single rod not two welded together.
To replace the release lever gaiter - remove the twin rod from the release lever and the intermediate link/relay. Pull the gaiter from the gearbox and over and off the release lever. Replace in the reverse order.
Fit a new release rod (see link below) and adjust the clutch as necessary.

Re: Clutch linkage
Cheers Phil , I thought the twin rod looked a little suspect! Thanks for the link also. Really enjoying the challenge and daily toils of owning a Morris! No two days are the same!

Re: Clutch linkage
Be careful when removing the spring attached between the clutch release lever and engine backplate to gain access to the release lever gaiter and the twin welded rod removal/new rod fitment. The spring is quite strong and is liable to fly if care is not taken.
Re: Clutch linkage
Thanks again, appreciate advice and tips.

Re: Clutch linkage
Probably someone welded the rod up in a botched sort of way to repair when the original rod broke - as they sometimes do.
