Quarter light replacement. Help.

I’ve replaced the rubbers for the quarter lights and am attempting to fit new quarter lights. I’m finding it impossible to get them to fit. I can’t line up the screw holes for the top swivel. Any tips would be appreciated.

These can be a fiddle! I have done it but can't quite remember how! It may help to try with the QL at different stages of opening and a bradawl can help line up one hole while you get a screw in the other, but be careful. May also help with someone else pushing down on the QL while you try and line things up.

I have just done this to mine.
If you undo the two screws that tension the brass bush that the spindle at the bottom of the QL fits into, you get a bit more movement. I would lubricate the spindle a bit too before putting it in.
You have to locate the window frame part of the top hinge in the rubber, put the two parts of the hinge together, and then prise the rubber into the frame using something like a blunt flat head sarewdriver. Then, with a bit of manipulation, the two screw holes should be close enough to get the screws in.

Must be national quarter light week, I've just refitted mine, too! It isn't easy - you need to have the swivel pin through the rubber into the bottom bearing, the frame part of the top hinge pushed into the rubbber and both parts of the hinge together while pushing the rubber into the frame. I used the bradawl method, together with swearing. Try and get all the rubber pushed in around the top hinge before tightening it. And don't fit the vertical rubber inside out, like I did...

It's a good idea to have a large tray under the area where you're working, preferably withy a black rubber mat in it. It won't make the fitting any easier, but sure helps when you drop the wretched little screws...
