Heritage bare metal shells

Just seen an advertisement offering to build better than new travellers using "Heritage bare metal shells" for just under £20k.

That's great I thought finally heritage shells available, think of all the welding it saves.

Turns out the devil is in the detail and it is an offer to rebuild a car using the existing body stripped of its paint, so not a heritage shell but a car with heritage presumably.

Funny how people play with words.

I wondered how hard it would be to 3D scan a floorpan and then get new entire floors pressed out. Turns out that the problem will be in the force required to press such a large panel out.

It would be great to be able to slice the entire floor out of a car and drop the original bulkhead and outer body back on.

British Motor Heritage were able to build brand new bodyshells for the MGB, MG Midget and the Mini because the original press tools still (largely) existed. This applies to the wings and one or two other items for the Minor 1000 but because the press tooling for other panels do not exist, we will never see new bodyshells produced.
