Brake cylinder - for back wheel

Hi My friends , i look for buy brake cylinder for back weels, seem to be 2 type cylinders,

What is the correct one for 1957 Morris Minor 1000 -

The car cylinders have not rubber boot , it move up and down , is it normal or incorrect cylinder ?

Hi Sandun, here is a link to the Moss site which has a schematic and lists all the parts you require.
Yes the cylinder should have a rubber boot and should be able to slide up and down.

The cylinder itself does not have a rubber boot like the front brake cylinders. Dust and dirt is prevented from entering the cylinder by the piston with dust cover (BMC Pt No: AJA5008) which has a dust seal which fits inside the cylinder.
The rubber boot (part of item 59 in the above link) (BMC Pt No: 7H7943) fits over the cylinder pipe union and to the rear/outside of the brake back plate.

The correct rear brake cylinder for your car is posted in the link against the chassis number for your car which I believe is Pt No: GWC1111 (MOSS) (BMC Pt No: 17H3685)

Don't forget to reassemble the cylinder with some brake grease, helps preserve the brake cylinders

Look at this two pic , there are two type , some site says 1957 - 1962 , - can this two cylinder type set to my car (1957) ?

Hi Sandun, you can fit the later wheel cylinders as the difference is the bore size of the cylinder, the other dimensions are exactly the same.You must though replace them as a pair otherwise the rear brakes will be out of balance.
Personally I would replace them with the correct size for your year of car. (57-62)

may be i can buy second one (62 onward ) from here .

want to ask again , the hand brake arm of the cylinder diffarent size when the compare the two ? Because i ask it , seem to be my car has (62 onwerd ) cylinders .

when i move to up the brake arm handle , the piston move to down small amount (2or 3 mm ) is it normal or any problem ?

Hi Sandun, it's normal. When the brakes are adjusted correctly It only needs to move a small amount.
