Value of a S II Traveller

Hi there,
as there are no SII offered on the popular sites today, I'd like to ask you about the value of a restored one like mine. What did you pay for yours? What would you pay for one to be yours?

Condition: everything fine, ready to go, wood new, carb new, brakes/tyres new, carpet new, all rubber parts new, many many more new things.., welded professoinally, wax sealing inside and below, paintjob new and ok but not concours (to be polished), chrome very good or new, leather seats with patina.
7000 punds spent for spares.
TüV (MOT) approved no failures at all.

I'm thinking about selling.... Would there be anyone interested?

There is one on ebay.co.uk. 1954 Traveller. Still 803cc. Restored. Allegedly good service history. New MOT. Mileage confusing as listing states only 29000 miles but description suggests 60000 miles up to 1967. Only flaw mentioned is slight damage to rear seat cover. Asking price is £8250. It's been on ebay before and didn't sell. Item 222638792539.

I've been watching that one for a while now. Its been on Gumtree for a while and he was asking around £10,000 recently but has dropped it to £8250.Still a bit rich in my opinion though .

Just proves the point that it is only worth what it sells for and if the overpriced ones are sitting around..................

Plus you rarely get back what you've spent on them, if you are lucky you break even but then that's not the point of classic car ownership, is it.

More to the point why would you want to sell such a great car after spending all that to do her up??

I've got a new job which takes too much time. So with the job, family, other cars and motorbikes it's difficult to spend enough time for everyone. I'm sure there are quite many of you who can understand. And I think it would be a shame just to ban the Morris to the garage...

I thought SII travellers were quite rare and ones in good condition would fetch closer to £10,000.

I'd gladly take it off your hands for nothing though, smart car!

IMHO £10,000 is probably what you'd have to pay if buying from a 'proper' Classic Car dealer who has his overheads and profit margin to consider. Private sales should by somewhat cheaper.

To illustrate the difference, I've noted recently quite a few reasonsble looking split-screen saloons being offered privately in the £3750 to £5000 range.

Dealer equivalents recently advertised, including an allegedly 'unmolested' cheesegrater grille saloon (with shiny, machine-polished paintwork, 1960s seats and door-cards, a badly bodged indicator stalk switch and 'original 1098cc engine') seem to have asking prices in the £6500 to £8000 range.

In my experience not all the cars from dealers are what the seem or should be . I have said this before on another similar posting. How many times do you see a minor for sale with "restored a few years ago by well known restorer / dealer but now requiring some tlc" Just because its at a dealers for sale doesn't mean it's a good un ! As mentioned above, it's only worth what the person that's viewing it is prepare to pay. I've walked away from a fair amount of travellers, tourers and saloons these last few years because people are asking way to much for them, be they restored or good conditioned ones. I bought my current tourer some ten years ago and was very lucky to purchase it from a guy who was honest and up front and not after the earth for her and she's a good un too .
