Seat belts

Hi I am a new member and have just got my first minor, it is a 1968 two door saloon, I have been checking it over today and noticed the centre seat belt are connected to the hand brake fixing, is this correct, it doesn't seem right to me

That sounds odd ! Or do you mean the transmission tunnel adjacent each side of the handbrake fixing point?
The centre sections of an original design of the Minor fixed belt normally go each to triangular shaped 'swivelling' floor plate plates bolted through the floor. ( Drivers side belt go back to the foot well behind passenger seat and passenger belt go back to the foot well behind drivers seat, so these centre belt lengths cross each other ) Obviously any seat belt anchorage deemed to be found suspect/unsecure/unsatisfactory would be an MOT failure.

Thanks for the reply, on the transmission tunnel there is a u shaped bracket that holds the rear of the hand brake, the seat belts are bolted either side of this, it did not look correct to me, and it passed an MOT the day I picked it up

I said your initial discription sounded a bit 'odd' because it sounded like the seat belts might have beeen fixed to the actual handbrake mechanism !!!
But as you clarify now it sounds that they are actually fixed each side through the transmission tunnel (solid metal) So should be no worries at all and is the other fixing points usually used especially for later fitted belts. ( good you have a passed MOT as a result)

If you could post a picture then we'll be able to confirm if it looks OK. I'm sure that the MOT would have picked up serious problems, but they might not be fully informed regarding Minors.
