No that is the one - now i am Feeling smug because this was my Suggestion in my post to you at the start of the thread. Now i am a "Klugscheiße"Sweeny wrote:Well, first things first, apologies for the late update, never enough hours in the day![]()
Success!!! I have traced the problem to an earthing fault, the old girl has life again!!! With thanks to bcmecosse in another thread suggesting earthing the engine block to the battery with a jump lead, the starter motor now cranks the engine and the ignition system works as intended which makes me assume that the engine isn't being earthed correctly??? Looking for earthing points around the engine the only one I can see that's capable of being the 'main' earthing point is a cable connecting the gearbox housing and the gearbox cross member. Are there any other known earthing points for the engine block other than this cable?![]()
Thank you all in advance,
Tom

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but don't confuse the gearbox steady cable with the earthing strap. They are both attached to the gearbox cross member, and you need both!

I take my hat off to you Nickol, "Klugscheiße" or not
Yes the steady strap and the earthing cable are both present and figured out (although you did make me pause for a second there, thanks Mark
) Tonight I am going to remove the earthing cable, give it a good clean and clean the contacts to give it the best connection possible and 'fingers crossed', problem solved!
Thank you everyone for all your help, one step closer to having another Moggie on the road!
Cheers,
Tom
