Distributor refit and engine tuning

Post by Sweeny »

Hi all,

Very new to this topic so apologies in advance for any "silly" questions asked. I have recently done a complete engine rebuild of my 1968 traveller 1098cc and as such the timing has been lost (distributor was stripped down also, replaced points, condenser replaced, holding plate removed etc.). I have looked through the manuals in regards to refitting the distributor and I think I have a rough idea but, to be on the safe side, I'd like a second opinion. So my question is, what would be the best way going about refitting the distributor and consequently retuning the engine.

Many thanks in advance and any extra info in regards to smooth engine running will be gratefully received. :)

Cheers,

Tom

Just follow the Manual - and make sure the rotor arm is pointing at the lead going to #1 cylinder when the piston is at TDC with both valves closed. It will then start (assuming your dizzy overhaul is correct) - and you can fine tune it by slowly advancing and retarding the timing till you get the smoothest idle.
