L549 stop/tail light

Post by 46entry »

Hi everyone, my first day as a member - I have a 1958 four door 1000 - Can anyone tell me where I can source the L/H - R/H angled rubber pad which fits between the light unit and the rear wing ? - all the dealers I have approached only want to sell me a complete unit !

Welcome to the messageboard. I also have a 1958 Minor 1000. I am slightly confused by your request though. My car has a rubber gasket between the rear stop/tail light and the wing which I would expect to be available as a spare part but not what I would describe as an angled pad. Are you able to photograph the item concerned? Generally speaking the Morris 1000 is well served by specialist parts suppliers.

Thanks for the Moss Europe suggestion. although it doesn't solve my problem it has shown the reason for it, my car must have an old version of the L549 tail lights for Morris Minor - it appears that what I have is the standard L549's (with flat bases made for Mg etc) fitted against specially made shaped rubber gaskets and not the current Morris Minor ones with the shaped light bodies.

Thanks again for your help, now, does anyone know who originally made these shaped rubber gaskets for Morris ?

If the lamp plinth is standard, couldn't you use part 77 to bring it back to original spec and be done with the oddly shaped rubber?

As you say, the light fitted to your car is not original. Quite a different base to those on my own 1958 car. I don't know what that rubber base comes from but the light itself does look like the Series11 Minor type.
You might be able to find the correct lights secondhand? I imagine they are quite expensive new.

Maybe an early VW part? Are they not similar?
