NEW BOY.....if you wish to check your compressions and do not
have a compression tester then you can get a good idea by using
the starting handle (you should have one). With the ignition OFF,
and car in neutral you should insert the handle and turn the engine
over. As you compress the air in each cylinder you will hear the
faint hiss as the compression escapes wherever it can. All four
cylinders should offer roughly the same resistance to the turn of
the handle so,if one or more are noticeably easier then you might
well have a problem. This does not,of course, give you any sort
of pressure reading, just a comparison of all four cylinders.
