Its he woodwork that scares me!

Post by chickenjohn »

Having just spent a couple of hours trial fitting the wood, shaving a bit off, fitting it up again, shaving a bit, etc etc, roof still doesn't line up nicely with the top rail.

This reminded me of the real reason I put off re-starting my traveller resto this year (as well as multiple colds, bad weather etc....), I've got to the point where all the welding is done on the right hand side (apart from the wood/ wing flange). All seam sealed and in zinc primer.

Now I have to get the wood to fit. It does 99% its just that rear corner that is too high (normal, according to Rob Thommason, they make them too big for some reason??).

Its getting closer now, just need to shave a bit more off - and yes, i have tried ratcheting the roof down, there is just too much wood height on that rear pillar, we're only talking fractions of an inch, but.... I confess, the wordwork scares me.

Mechanics I can do, now I think nothing of cutting rusty chunks ot metal out of the car - I can weld the repair panels in.

But the wood........and then all those holes in the new ali panels that I've painted, how am I going to line them up with the ones in the flange to screw the wood/ ali/ steel sandwich together.......(masking tape and pen marks are my idea), bit still, of the holes dont line up it could be a bitch to drill through in situ.....

Decided to stop for a coffee and a rest before continuing. Hope you don't mind, just thought I'd lighten the load and share my mid-resto crisis burden!! :o
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
