Hi All, My 1957 moggy has 2 (cross ply)tires that are getting ready to be changed
Thinking to get rid of cross ply and go radial
Which are best tires to go for and where ? If anybody has any advice,
Plus don,t want to pay silly money

try bull motif they do bridgestone at 55 quid and toyo at 43 quid or google your local mobile tyre fitter as mine came up with bridgestone at a reasonable price, cant remember how much as it was 5 year ago, i have no connection with bull motif and im sure other companies will do them, hope this helps graham

I have just had bridgestones fitted to my traveller and they are excellent.

I got 5 nankangs on ebay for £145. 155 80 14.

I can vouch for the Nankangs being very good - certainly better than the Toyos. They are 155, which is slightly larger than the recommended 145, but thousands of folks have this size of radial on Minors for decades without trouble. I run the Nankangs at around 28 psi. Ideally, the 145 Bridgestones are the best (so I'm told - no personal experience) and these are the size of standard fitment optional radials late in Minor production. However, they are pricey. That said, someone on here found a cheap source of them around a month ago - worth doing a search for the thread.

Be aware that tyre sizes, along with a few other topics, is a can of worms on this forum...! I stress again that what I've written is based on my personal experience of having run both Nankangs and Toyos!

Ha will be. Theyre stored away at the moment. Iv never driven a minor before well apart from into the workshop, so i wont know the difference anyway.

After getting a flat last week we took the flat and also my spare (which was also flat) to the garage yesterday. Not good news I'm afraid. The flat was a remould. The garage wouldn't touch it with a barge pole and told us its massively dangerous. The spare, which was the same as the other tyres on the car as far as we could tell, the garage told us was 22 years old and the rubber was perishing. So thats an entire set of new tyres ordered. We've gone with Nankangs. Another expensive day

Alice, it's more expensive if the tyres blow at 50 ! The consequences could be awful.

Yeah Steve, I know and totally agree. Safety first which is why we decided to just replace the lot. Spent so much time over the last 6 months getting everything mechanically sound and sorting out various things which needed attention (brakes etc) I'd never even considered the tyres might be that old. Just shows how much there is to think about and what a new world I've entered buying my first classic (and first car).

Well my Williams back with his spanking new set of tyres. It has made a noticeable difference, hes driving much smoother now. The rims were badly corroded, the spare was so badly pitted he had to sand blast it and wire brush the others. But hopefully hes all set now and its a while before any more tyre troubles

Yes we will be there with him, so see you there! We're off to our first ever MMOC Rally a week today in Barnsley, but I think we might have to deal with a leaking Carb before we attempt that run. We're also off to the Autokarna in June
