A Double Birthday (Sentimentality Warning)

Post by Monty-4 »

Hi folks!

I'm going to try and break a habit in this thread and not ask a technical question that bmcecosse will then answer for me. Madness!

My Minor was first registered on this day in 1968, 19 years later, I was... err... registered. I celebrated today by hooking up the heated manifold, a K&N cone, an oil/water heat exchanger from the 1.3 metro and contact-less points (Accuspark). The car starts and runs wonderfully and the oil pressure no longer drops below 20psi after a hard run on the motorway. I even got a half-excuse to turn on my super-ned/chav Miller fog lights when testing it tonight, Scottish weather.

The amount I've been able to learn - for free and mostly from this forum - in the last year and a half really boggles the mind. As far as I was concerned cars worked by magic before. Thank you all and here's hoping for many more years of happy motoring.

Well done , and hearty congratulations to you both. Better to NOT connect the heated inlet manifold - you want the coolest possible charge going in to the engine.... Well done finding the Metro heat exchanger - 'not common' these days. I'll 'forgive' you the extra lights, as long as you don't develop a fetish for the ghastly/dangerous peaks!

I failed at not getting tech advice from bmc in a thread. ;)

I've found it starts easier and the choke can go in earlier with the heated manifold. I quite fancy fitting a thermostatically controlled feed to it, beyond necessary but fun.

Why would a water heated manifold make it start easier or earlier choke - considering the water going round will be cold ??? Choke should go in half way almost immediately, and fully within 15/20 seconds anyway....

Agreed, I have a HIF44 on an unheated alloy inlet manifold, and the choke goes in within a few seconds/yards of starting up from cold at this time of year.
