Can't you get round that by doing a temporary hitch up to a spare battery? I did that to a merc that I had about 10 yrs ago. Kept the ecu alive whilst I put the new battery on. Probably dangerous? Worked though.
Re: Vauxhall Zafira won't run after oil change
I seem to have fixed it! I thought that it had to be something to do with the air filter change, it just couldn't have anything to do with the oil. I ran the engine which continued to do the same thing and played around with the air filter and intake arrangement while listening for leaks. Eventually I heard a sucking sound. I found vaguely where it was coming from and wiggled it about (it was at the back of the engine bay so I couldn't see it properly). The sucking sound stopped and the engine instantly started running fine. It's been for a drive and all is well.
So, it's temporarily fixed but I need to track down exactly where the air leak was so it can be fixed properly. The car has had a slightly rough idle for a while now. Nothing at all major but not completely smooth. I suspect that it's had a small air leak for a long time and that when I moved the pipes around to change the filter, I opened it up more. I reckon that when I find the leak properly and fix it then it will run even better.
As always, thank you for all the help and suggestions!

Good to know you have found the issue, i ended up doing a road side fix on my mondeo with duck tape and tie wraps when the pipe on the back of the turbo went boom.
