I'm sure it's a lesson learned - in future remove each plug lead in turn to check if removing one of them makes no difference... Insulated pliers are recommended.... :D

Just to compliment the thread - my other car is an Austin 8 which also has a 800cc side valve engine. A bündle of power it is not and third gear in the hills around here is amust. Indeed there is one that it will not get up at all, even in first gear. This despite being well tuned and maintained.

Nah, big it is not and certainly smaller than the Minor.

but, Roy is right as always - far too heavy for the small engine which by the way, has neither a water pump nor an external oil filter. ( you have to remove the sump and clean some kind of installed mesh, I have read)

I was attracted to this thread in the hope that perhaps it may be possible to fit one.

My father had an Austin 8 two door saloon, KNW 145. I have a couple of photos somewhere. It only had one windscreen wiper

I have seem many examples with only one wiper - my car has been modified in the past and although it still has the original working indicator arms, you can Switch to the normal blinker Arrangement which is safer anyway.
It has also been converted to 12v , which is a bit sad as I myself would have preferred the original 6V layout.
check out this Website

http://www.austin-eight.com/

It is run by Hermann Egges in Holland - there is a list of all registered Austin 8 , also by Registration number and you might see where your father's car is now.
