My daily driver series 2 makes a lot of odd mechanical noise its clearly audible when ticking over sort of random clicking not the fuel pump or tappets I had initially thought it was to do with the crank pulleys edges not being the straightest but it still does it with the fan belt off. I'm now of a mind to think its coming from the bell housing.
Are there any known clutch issues that would cause this kind thing the clutch works ok if a little high on the pedal.
random mechanical noise.

Re: random mechanical noise.
The shock absorbing springs built into the clutch friction plate can rattle but I doubt you would be able to hear the sound while the engine is running.
Have you narrowed down the location of the noise with a mechanics stethoscope (a long screwdriver ) ?

Its not prop that's just had new bolts and new uj's this issue existed before and after that to the same degree I have purchased a brand new borg and beck 3 part clutch kit ( £28 I know some handy people) so ill rip it all to bits at the weekend and change the lot. Its not a rattle it has a definite hint of something catching as it rotating.
Re: random mechanical noise.
Maybe a foreign body has found its way into the bell housing. I found a pebble in one once.

Maybe the starter? Pull it and inspect the Bendix in case it has broken up in some way.
