Re: Work/education
Hello, I have been restoring my convertible for 3 years now and she is nearly on the road . I completed an apprenticeship in Panel Beating, taking a particular interest in sheet metal work I found myself restoring many vehicles for other people over a 7 year period and really wanted one for myself. During this time I completed a Mechanical engineering degree, now working as a design engineer for a British vehicle manufacturer alongside studying for a masters degree in Automotive engineering.

Re: Work/education
Ah great, just the thread.------- plenty of students here, and hopefully a tutor. What's the difference between a student studying a subject and a student reading a subject?
Re: Work/education
C'mon you can't all be as mystified as me! Especially those that read or studied.

How snobby the university and subject matter are...les wrote:Ah great, just the thread. What's the difference between a student studying a subject and a student reading a subject?
You read history at Cambridge.
You study engineering at Sheffield.

Thanks for your thoughts,I did suspect it was an ego trip but thought there might be a possibility of it being a more tangible thing! You get it a lot on university challenge. Most seem to study but then you get the odd few who apparently read!

Just been given a clue.Alex'n'Ane wrote:How snobby the university and subject matter are...les wrote:Ah great, just the thread. What's the difference between a student studying a subject and a student reading a subject?

A recent university challenge featured a university team of four, the third student said they were studying history, the following student said he was " also reading history" pretty conclusive they are one of the same. So we can reasonably say that the latter is expressing a degree of self importance, that the former sees as unnecessary! When I worked in a hospital I did broach this conundrum to a professor over there, he answered by putting his finger horizontally under his nose. Looks like he was right!

Re: Work/education
Tubey - when you said you were a train engineer, I thought you meant a train driver in America (like good old Casey Jones) but then I guess that would be a 'railroad engineer'!
