Which Distributer?

Post by youngb506 »

Could anyone put me right hare? I've been driving a Minor saloon for 30 years but never till now had to change a distributor. Bryan G assures me that a DM 2 is right for my 1957 1000 and I'm sure he's right, but the one in there at the moment is a 25D. Are they interchangeable? Might someone have put a later distributor in for some sort of an upgrade. Did the earlier DM2 have any shortcoming that I've yet to experience? I have a new old stock DM 2 on its way to me. I'll definitely be using the best points and condenser I can find.

The 25D is a slight upgrade on the old DM2. Nothing to worry about.

The distributors are interchangeable but they may have different advance curves. You would only find this out by studying the serial number and refering to tables, you would probably not notice the difference. The most important thing is to make sure that the vacuum advance is working, and there is not too much free play in the drive
