wiring loom

ello chaps, got another question, for the technicly minded

my splitty has a 1098 in it, im going to fit inicators under the bumpers , i intend buying a new 1098 loom with alternator wiring/no regulator, can anyone forsee problems before i spend money, ill fit indicator arm to column and i want to keep pull starter, just wondered about lights in speedo and relay? for flashers, cheers boys

Well, TECHNICALLY you could wire the car up to your exact spec without using a bought loom, so just get the loom which is closest to what you need and modify it accordingly. Can't you get a 2nd hand loom off a scrapper?

The 1098 loom has provision for the flasher bulbs so no problems there. You won't need a relay either, just the little 'can' flasher unit. The key start you will have to just ignore on the loom (or chop it off). Then just use the pull start which is not part of the loom anyway. You might have to make up the odd link wire as the pull-starter loom power feed is much higher up than the late solenoid type........

If I were you, I'd just modify a 2nd hand late 1098 loom.

thanks lads,if i could get a nice one cam ,i would go 2nd hand, but i want the engine bay to be as new,cheers mate

You could always ask for an early 1098 wiring loom (apparently the first 1098's still had the pull start).
To be honest though - I would not buy a wiring loom until you are sure the car will get finished. Buying 'some bits for later' is an easy trap to fall into, and is why you get so many new bits on ebay as people have spent a fortune and when they finally give iup on the project they have to sell bits to recover a fraction of what they spent.
Up to you though, as it's your money ;-)

Careful though as the early 1098s had different indicator provisions!

If you want a mint looking engine bay then fair enough, but as Ray says sometimes you can see new bits on eBay so it might be best to wait a bit and see if anything comes up. If not then buy a new one. I think they are about £80 or so from memory.
