Door bottom seal location?

Post by stroprock »

I have a question regarding the door seal which runs along the bottom of the front doors. I have repaired both door bottoms of my '67 2-door saloon and consequently need to replace the seal and metal C channel which goes along the very bottom edge, underneath, as pictured here:

My two questions are; What is the measurement for where this should go, taken from the door skin/outside edge to the channel?
And also, I ordered from ESM two channels and also two of these metal strips, which it said I would also need, but what are they and where do they go?

Hope; this makes sense!! :)

I have also replaced the rubbers on the bottom of my driver’s door. The ‘C’channel holds the rubber EXC122, sorry don’t have measurement.

The metal strip EXC140 is used to hold the clips EXC112 and these are used to hold the rubber EXC110 to the bottom inside edge of the door. The strip and clips fit in the U shape of the rubber and you need to make holes in the back of the rubber to allow the clips to pass through rubber. The clips then go into holes along the bottom of the inside edge of the door.

Hope this helps

When you weld the channel to the door bottom, be aware it is made from very thin metal and is prone to blow through if not careful.

I also need the measurement, and does the channel follow the curve of the door bottom or run in a straight line? I was going to pop rivet rather than weld.can't see any reason why that won't work.Cheers John G

The rivet head might be a reason, they would need to have very thin heads to allow the rubber to locate properly, you may also have difficulty getting the rivet gun nozzle into the channel.

Seems to me riveting would leave space for water to get trapped between the two , making it rust very quickly.

OK, I think I get it. So it goes clips EXC112 to rubber EXC110 (after holes are made) and these through the metal square-holed strip EXC140, and all this together clips into holes I need to drill in the door bottom inside edge (LH side in my first picture)?

EXC145 and the seal strip EXC122 are just for the bottom one (RH side in my first picture), and separate from the above, correct?

Two pictures below that shows how I put the strip/clips/rubber together
.
Sorry this ones a bit fuzzy

The channel on the bottom of my door is 2cm from the inside edge of the door skin. Not sure if this is correct but the rubber just needs to push on the sill when the door is closed.

Hope this helps
