where do u measure to determine 7" or 8" is it the backplate? thats 8",thanks steve :roll:

Hello,

I have always taken it as the inner drum diameter, but that has been an assumption.

Alec is correct. The 7" and 8" drum inside diameters (friction surface edge) are 7" and 8" respectively.

thanks lads , if theyre 7" i suppose theres a chance its the origanol axle and not the 1098 one, steve

i think i am right in saying that all morris had 7" rears and the early ones 7" front as well.
then they changed the fronts to 8" still keeping the 7" rears

so i suppose does not matter about the rear axle, except the diff ratio on early ones

I wouldn't worry about it Steve! Get the thing a ticket first and start driving it- It might be OK. if not, then its not too much of a problem to change the axle.
