Sadly the paint workshop has cracked the speedometer glass. Does this mean I have to replace the whole unit or can the glass just be replaced?

When I cleaned my speedo up the glass was bedded in black mastic, which was messy and probably not original. The glass was easy to remove, so it should be straightforward to have a piece of thin glass cut and replace it. A clock repairer should be able to supply suitable glass.

Just pick up an old speedo and swap the glass -but surely this is a task for the 'paint shop' - since they broke it ??? And I have to ask - how on earth?
