'Choke' doesn't operate a disc in the carb.....it pulls the jet dowm - it's not a 'choke' at all! Better check the valve gaps and the compressions.... I assume you have tried another set of plugs - and made SURE the plug leads are correct order -1342 anti clock round the dizzy cap.

I will check the lead order tomorrow as it has just started raining here in sunny Cheshire! I should imagine they are in order as my mechanic served his time on Morris Minors. It is strange that when I picked it up from the garage on Friday, it ran beautifully for around 15 minutes. Went to start it to go to a show this morning and we were back to missing and spluttering and loss of power.

Thanks folks

I have changed the HT leads and dizzy cap and it is running much better and is actually drivable. It is still misfiring and coughing , but I am sure this is mixture related. Any tips and suggestions on setting the mixture would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

First find the lift pin on the carb, as the name suggests it is a spring loaded pin on the underneath of the carb body, as you push it in it lifts the piston slightly in the carb. If the engine dies as you lift it (slowly) the mixture is too weak, if it speeds up it's too rich - just right is if the engine stays note the same or speeds up slightly.

Very simple check - does it go better if you pull the 'choke' out slightly? If so - it's too weak.
