Chips Away!

Post by Boomlander »

The paint technician from Chips Away is arriving tomorrow to repair the hideous scratch in Jethro's rear wing.
I would have loved to do the work myself but without garage facilities or manoeuvring space it would have been impossible.
I must give a mention to Clacton Paint and Panel of Oxford Road Clacton on Sea for their excellent service in identifying the paint code of the car's existing finish.
I will post some before and after pictures when the work is completed. :D

Indeed - please do! Did you have to tell Chips the paint code before he comes over?

Yes, I gave the man the correct paint code and when he came over yesterday he brought some swatch samples.
The one that my local paint shop identified matched perfectly!
Unfortunately the damage was more extensive than I first realised and now the rear panel behind the door as well as the wheel arch need repairing and respraying at a cost of £360 and has had to be rescheduled for July 8th to allow for the extra work.
Local bodyshops were quoting around £500 + vat for the same job so not too bad a price to pay.
Nevertheless it was an expensive mistake to make and I'll not be repeating it!! [frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Yep, entirely my own fault and is costing me the money I had set aside for new big end and main bearings to be fitted this year!
Still, not the end of the world and I'll have the car back looking as good as it did before the damage.
Bearings next year I hope!

The Chips Away technician took only four hours to restore Jethro's paintwork.
The paint matched perfectly and he even touched in some chips on the door and removed some swirl marks on the boot lid!
Considering the entire rear wing and lower panel from the rear door edge back to the bumper had to be repainted I was amazed and delighted with the result and would recommend Chips Away without hesitation.
Paint will be fully hardened in seven days and I can then give the car a long overdue clean and polish. :D :D[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Looks a good repair they have done.

It was Clacton Car Panels and Paint that matched mine for me as I wanted some to do some touchups and spray the gearbox cover, their match was spot on for that as well.

Worth knowing Chips away do a decent job.

My daughter's Clio has a similar scratch - £250 at the local body shop - and he promises it will be 'perfect' - and I believe him seeing his immaculate RS2000 .... Seems a lot to me - considering it will probably be scratched again before we know it... I was all for a quick job with a touch up pen meantime, but that was shouted down. Guess who has to pay the £250 though.....
