Molly's wood

Hey guys what's the best thing to use on Molly's wood I have started sanding it down and got this far already I will take the doors off once the car is in the garage, plus I don't want the wood to be dark if I can help it

When I stripped Ted's down I used Cuprinol 5 first of all, several applications over a few days and let it dry. It's a colourless preservative so doesn't stain the wood at all. I then gave it a couple of coats of Osmo Oil. it darkened it down slightly and gives a light sheen but I like the shade If you do get it use the Clear 420 UV protected.

I like to use Danish oil,but it wouldn't last long if the car is kept outside.

Ted lives outside all year round and the Osmo seems to be doing a good job.

You need to get all the horrible old varnish off first. Then indeed many soakings with Cuprinol 5* is the way to go.

I back scraped used a chisel to remove most of the varnish and then finished it off with sandpaper - it's a lot quicker than sanding alone and you can get into all the little awkward bits. Doesn't half blunt your chisels though

I am now on the other side about half way done too where can I get cuprinol 5 from? Not used it, it's sad to think Molly was on the road just over a year ago when my parents had her, she turns 50 in 4 years so I have gave my self that time to get her done if she is done faster then great but there is no rush really

I got the Cuprinol from B&Q and the Osmo Oil from Ebay, it was the cheapest I could find it.

I wouldn't use that. The Cuprinol 5 star is a clear liquid available in 1litre tins and described as an 'all purpose treatment to kill wet rot,dry rot and woodworm'. All DIY places seem to have it. The stuff you found is really for garden decking.

Lovely sunny weather here today so I left the car out looked out the window about an hour ago and it's lashing it down! slippers on Molly started and somehow squeezed in to the garage for the night

You can go off people very quickly (says in a very deep, gruff, manly voice)
Cuprinol make all sorts of treatments but don't get anything but Cuprinol 5 for you travellers wood.
