engine cutting out ? fuel or ignition.

Car suddenly would not start, apparently fuel problem. Gave it spare pump. Engine worked fine but pump chattered a lot. made me nervous so fitted new electronic pump (made in NZ). Seemed fine but when I ran it for a bit the engine cut out on idle. Increased idle speed, ran for 10 mins then cut out. Now keeps cutting out on various throttle openings. There always seems to be fuel in the float chamber OK. What else do I look at? (Car has electronic ignition.)

Too much pressure from the non standard fuel pump..... ?

well it is stated to be low pressure pump and NZ sent me photos of it installed in a minor. What would be the effect of too much pressure?
