I had a spot of bother when fitting a spin on filter conversion (not ESM). The housing to block gasket looked substantial enough but it didn't cover the faces very well and I ended up with half a sump full of oil running down the drive  I'd cleaned the faces up properly so it wasn't that, once I made another gasket it was fine - oh and the pipe supplied was too short so I had to nick the one of my Mini  Just a couple of things to check before starting.

Yes the pre oiling of the filter seems to be a good thing, and Panky thats a good point i will check all the bits first and make sure i have spare gasket material around and not just an old cornflake packet :D
