Window keeps coming down
Hi,
I've got a problem with my driver's window in that it slowly shuffles down while I'm driving, especially if it's bumpy. It's been like it since I bought the car and I can't work out how to fix it. I keep tightening the screw on the handle which cures it for a short while but makes the handle very hard to turn. After a journey or two though, it's back to normal. I don't have the same problem with the passenger window which stays shut the whole time and isn't hard to open. Any ideas on how I could fix this?
Thanks

Re: Window keeps coming down
Take the window winder handle off and put it back on such that pulling down on it closes the window.
That normally does the trick.

The glass is probably loose in the runners (does it rattle?) - new runners should hold it and handle as suggested above. But it's summer now ! Drive with the window open and your arm hanging languidly down the side of the door........

Re: Window keeps coming down
Years ago the same thing used to happen with my old Ford Pop but I was too lazy to fix it so I used to block the winder handle with a wedge shaped rubber door stop. It didn't work very well, the car was cold and draughty, what with the self opening window and no heater! Zodiac drivers used to stick an arm out of the window and hold onto the roof but only in summer.

Re: Window keeps coming down
Pack a rubber washer behind the winder, the extra friction against the door panel usually works

It's not a bad problem to have, with the summer coming on...
Re: Window keeps coming down
Thanks for the tips! The handle is already facing straight down when the window is closed, it's the same on the passenger door. The glass isn't noticeably loose in the frame and doesn't rattle. I might give the washer idea a try. What confuses me is how it's only the driver's side that comes down when they both seem to be in exactly the same condition.

Re: Window keeps coming down
Driver's window gets more use so things tend to get sloppy on that side

Re: Window keeps coming down
The idea is to have the handle ON THE WAY DOWN (ie at 3 o'clock) - so the weight of the handle is tending to hold the window closed

Re: Window keeps coming down
I would think that the big spring in the wider mechanism is damaged, I had one break a spring in the past and another were it lost the tension and wouldnt keep the glass in place. It should be easy to find a second hand one.
Too many Minors so little time.....

It also moves the winder as far away from your knee cap as possible!bmcecosse wrote:The idea is to have the handle ON THE WAY DOWN (ie at 3 o'clock) - so the weight of the handle is tending to hold the window closed
