Front brakes

Wondering if anyone could post me a picture of a correctly assembled front brake assembly, mainly regarding the spring positions. I have different ways that have been done on each wheel, obviously one is right and one is wrong. They both look plausible and both work OK, but needs to be right.

The workshop manual doesn't seem to give anything away that I can find, and neither does the Haynes book.

Any help appreciated.

As long as the springs don't bind on the hub all will be well. Sorry I don't have a picture (and it would be 9" W brakes if I did....) - but I'm sure someone who does will be along shortly!

Thanks for the reply, they are both clear and work OK, I did not notice when I did my inspection last year, only noting that everything was ok, no leaks and the shoes were getting down. Hence why I am fitting new shoes.

One end of the shoe has two holes close by, with the shorter coiled end of the spring in the hole thats closest to the middle of the shoe the spring sits angled away from the wheel cylinder. If it were in the other hole the spring would foul the piston end of thd cylinder.

The other wheel has the springs the other way round and in the other hole, the springs then run parallel to the cylinder and miss it because the plain part sits next to the piston.

That's the picture with one spring fitted incorrectly!! The coils of the spring should NOT foul the cap of the cylinder....

Which it clearly states further down in the post, I just used the picture to help the op.

So I think from that my OS brake is correct, the spring is in the hole closest to the end of the shoe and with the smaller coil at the piston end of the cylinder.

It looks right and feels right like that.

On my NS brake the spring is in the other hole with the longer coil near the piston, it does miss but only just.

Thanks for the replies, anyone else have any differing views on whats right or wrong ?.

Front brakes all sorted, in the end I had to use the hole that was innermost giving the springs some more tension, not quite enough pull back on the shoes. Had to fit a couple of cylinders on the OS. All good now.

Sat was lovely and I took her for a little 50 mile run out to start getting things run in, other than a tweak of mixture and timing she behaved perfectly. Amazed at the difference a set of overhauled front brakes has made to the stopping procedure
